Brace

The brace traditionally
used in the treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is called a 'cock-up
splint'. This utilizes a metal 'stay' on the palm side of the hand
pushing the hand 'back / up'. the thinking is that this will open up
the area that has the swelling. However, if the wrist ligaments are
'stretched' this position actually decreases the carpal tunnel height
(putting more pressure on the Median Nerve).
Our brace differs in that
we touch the tips of the thumb and little finger together, increasing the
tunnel volume. Then, we fasten a 'hook & loop' strap around the
base of the hand. You can then stop touching the thumb and little
finger together, and enjoy full range of motion.
This glove must be worn
24-hours a day for 6 weeks, allowing the structure of the wrist to become
more stable. Illustrations of the two braces are shown below.
The 'full glove' is used to decrease edema

and the 'open glove' is used
when the hand swelling is minimal.
